Inverkip power station was an oil-fired power station in Inverclyde on the West coast of Scotland.

Construction began in 1970 for the then South of Scotland Electricity Board with generation ceasing in January 1988.  SSEB was privatised as Scottish Power in 1991 which maintained Inverkip as mothballed strategic reserve until decommissioning in 2006 – the decision was taken to clear the site in 2010.

Brown and Mason have a good longstanding relationship with Scottish Power.

The scope of our work at Inverkip covered: Asbestos Removal, Demolition and Site Clearance of Power Station Structures down to ground floor slab level, with an option to carry out below ground works generally down to a level of 2m below ground level.

The chimney at Inverkip is the third tallest in the UK and contains more than 1,400,000 bricks and 20,000 tonnes of concrete. Watch the short video below showing the destruction of the chimney.
