GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title Smashed at Cottam
We are proud to announce that Brown & Mason has officially set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most cooling towers demolished with controlled explosives simultaneously.
This achievement took place at Cottam Power Station in Nottinghamshire, where we successfully demolished eight cooling towers in a single, precisely timed explosive event.
Securing a world record is not simply a matter of scale. This project was the culmination of months of meticulous planning, advanced engineering, and exceptional teamwork. From the initial site assessments to the final countdown, every detail was modelled, reviewed, and executed with absolute precision to ensure a safe and flawless result.
This landmark demolition was another step in the nation’s commitment to net zero energy, executed with meticulous planning, detailed modelling, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Months of preparation came together in a single, unforgettable moment, setting a new benchmark for the global demolition industry.
Rikki Isgar, Explosive Demolition Manager said:
“Controlled explosive demolition is all about precision, not just power. Bringing down eight towers together meant modelling every movement, understanding every force, and executing flawlessly. There’s no second chance in this kind of work, and this achievement is a testament to the skill and dedication of the whole team.”
We extend our thanks to EDF Energy, our client at Cottam Power Station, for entrusting us with this milestone in their decommissioning programme, and to the Guinness World Records team for attending on site to formally recognise the achievement.
For more than six decades, we have been delivering some of the most challenging demolition projects in the UK and internationally, from complex dismantling operations to high-profile explosive events. Today’s achievement stands as a demonstration of our technical capability, our commitment to safety, and our ability to deliver results on the world stage.
